CALL FOR WORKSHOP AND CO-LOCATED EVENT PROPOSALS                             ICFP 2016  21st ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Functional Programming                      September 18-24, 2016                           Nara, Japan                http://icfpconference.org/icfp2016/ The 21st ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Functional Programming will be held in Nara, Japan on September 18-24, 2016. ICFP provides a forum for researchers and developers to hear about the latest work on the design, implementations, principles, and uses of functional programming. Proposals are invited for workshops (and other co-located events, such as tutorials) to be affiliated with ICFP 2016 and sponsored by SIGPLAN. These events should be less formal and more focused than ICFP itself, include sessions that enable interaction among the attendees, and foster the exchange of new ideas. The preference is for one-day events, but other schedules can also be considered. The workshops are scheduled to occur on September 18 (the day before ICFP) and September 22-24 (the three days after ICFP). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Submission details  Deadline for submission:     November 21, 2015  Notification of acceptance:  December 20, 2015 Prospective organizers of workshops or other co-located events are invited to submit a completed workshop proposal form in plain text format to the ICFP 2016 workshop co-chairs (Andres Loeh and Nicolas Wu), via email to     icfp2016-workshops(a)googlegroups.com by November 21, 2015. (For proposals of co-located events other than workshops, please fill in the workshop proposal form and just leave blank any sections that do not apply.) Please note that this is a firm deadline. Organizers will be notified if their event proposal is accepted by December 20, 2015, and if successful, depending on the event, they will be asked to produce a final report after the event has taken place that is suitable for publication in SIGPLAN Notices. The proposal form is available at: http://www.icfpconference.org/icfp2016-files/icfp16-workshops-form.txt Further information about SIGPLAN sponsorship is available at: http://www.sigplan.org/Resources/Proposals/Sponsored/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Selection committee The proposals will be evaluated by a committee comprising the following members of the ICFP 2016 organizing committee, together with the members of the SIGPLAN executive committee.  Workshop Co-Chair: Andres Loeh                        (Well-Typed LLP)  Workshop Co-Chair: Nicolas Wu                  (University of Bristol)  General Co-Chair : Jacques Garrigue                (Nagoya University)  General Co-Chair : Gabriele Keller     (University of New South Wales)  Program Chair:     Eijiro Sumii                    (Tohoku University) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Further information Any queries should be addressed to the workshop co-chairs (Andres Loeh and Nicolas Wu), via email to icfp2016-workshops(a)googlegroups.com

Mobile Reversi
by Marc Feeley 21 Oct '15

21 Oct '15

I have been working on a demo of the universal backend and specifically of the task migration between target languages. The demo is a reversi game where a human plays against the computer. The game is constantly searching for the best replies to the user’s legal moves, so it is never idle while the human is thinking. This has the advantage that the user gets an immediate response by the computer to the move he makes. The game runs in the user’s web browser, and it is possible to migrate the game to another device, for example another browser on the same computer or another browser on a different computer (desktop, cell phone, tablet, etc). It is also possible to migrate the app from the web browser to the web server for 10 seconds (to offload the search to the web server). This is possible even though the web browser is running a JavaScript version of the code, and the web server is running a PHP version of the code. You can try it out at: http://gambitscheme.org/reversi.php Please report any problems you might encounter. Marc

build-gambit-iOS issue
by Adam King 18 Oct '15

18 Oct '15

Hi List: I'm trying to build the latest gambit lib for iOS (device and sim) from github. It's worked fine for me in the past, but looks like something has broken recently. The last line of the build seems to show it building a java version? It also can't seem to find gsc-boot? With the change from Gambit-C to Gambit and the support for various backends, I'm guessing iOS build script has broken somehow. Thanks for any help. Lambdanative - Getting Started
by Russell Martin 11 Sep '15

11 Sep '15

Hello, Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question. I find the Getting Started page for LambdaNative to be just a bit too sparse in its directions. Can some kind person offer a bit more guidance as to how one should go about setting up LambdaNative? Do I download all of the files from GitHub? If so, where should they reside locally on a Mac OS X system? Where in Linux? Are there any system wide configurations that need to be made? Thanks in advance for any insight, clues, or helpful directions.

Gambit
by Marc Feeley 02 Sep '15

02 Sep '15

Now that the universal backend is nearing completion, I plan to remove the “C” from Gambit-C in various places (documentation, installation directories, environment variables, etc). For example, instead of using “-lgambc” when linking at the C level the option “-lgambit” will be needed. This will make the naming more consistent (after all it was gambit.h and not gambc.h, and the banner when starting gsi was “Gambit” not “Gambit-C”, etc). So you might want to anticipate having to change your makefiles and build process to take this into account. Marc
