Guile's new compiler
by lucier＠math.purdue.edu 18 Nov '15

Guile’s 2.1.1 announcement includes the following paragraph: ====================================================================== ** Better optimizations via compiler rewrite Guile's compiler now uses a Continuation-Passing Style (CPS) intermediate language, allowing it to reason easily about temporary values and control flow. Examples of optimizations that this permits are optimal contification, optimal common subexpression elimination, dead code elimination, loop-invariant code motion, loop peeling, loop inversion, parallel moves with at most one temporary, allocation of stack slots using precise liveness information, and closure optimization. For more, see "Continuation-Passing Style" in the manual. ====================================================================== Are some of these missing from Gambit’s compiler? Could they be “easily” added (for some value of “easily”)? Brad (Sorry for the third try sending this to the mail list. El capitan (Mac OS X 10.11) mail is “different”.)

Re: [gambit-list] Calling Scheme procedure from C

So for each module (or Scheme library) I have in my project I have to do a separate ___setup? I guess if I compile all my libraries into a single standalone executable the ___setup step is no longer required. --Vijay On Fri, Nov 13, 2015 at 9:10 PM, Marc Feeley <dr.marc.feeley(a)gmail.com> wrote: > The structure “setup_params” contains parameters for the runtime system > (e.g. the system version number, the size of the heap, the default > character encoding for I/O, the debugging level). Calling Scheme procedure from C
by Vijay Mathew 13 Nov '15

I found this code in examples/pthread/pthread.c: ___setup_params_struct setup_params; ___setup_params_reset (&setup_params); setup_params.version = ___VERSION; setup_params.linker = SCHEME_LIBRARY_LINKER; ___setup (&setup_params); What does ___setup_params_reset and ___setup do? Thanks, --Vijay

gsi (built from gambit-v4_8_1-devel.tgz) segfaulting on OS X when compiled with --enable-shared
by Bill Six 11 Nov '15

Does anyone else get a segfault when running "gsi" built on OS X (10.11.1) when "--enable-shared" is configured? I do not get this behavior when building without "--enable-shared". I mainly use Linux, and I've never had this issue on Linux. I built gambit (gambit-v4_8_1-devel.tgz) by "CC=gcc-mp-4.6 ./configure --enable-single-host --enable-shared --prefix=/Users/billsix/opt/gambit/build/ && make && make install" Bill-Sixs-Mac-mini:gambit billsix$ gsi Segmentation fault: 11 Bill-Sixs-Mac-mini:gambit billsix$ which gsi /Users/billsix/opt/gambit/build/bin/gsi Bill-Sixs-Mac-mini:gambit billsix$ otool -L $(which gsi) /Users/billsix/opt/gambit/build/bin/gsi: /Users/billsix/opt/gambit/build/lib/libgambitgsi.dylib (compatibility version 0.0.0, current version 0.0.0) /Users/billsix/opt/gambit/build/lib/libgambit.dylib (compatibility version 0.0.0, current version 0.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1225.1.1) /opt/local/lib/libgcc/libgcc_s.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0) System OS X Version 10.11.1 GCC - I've tried using macport's GCC 46 and 49 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill Six

Target language REPL
by Sanel Zukan 10 Nov '15

10 Nov '15

Hi, I'm playing with php and js as target languages and I must say it looks awesome. However, I'm wondering, is it possible to have REPL on target language: e.g. invoke gsi with '-target php', where Gambit will in runtime compile scheme code to php and run it in php interactive shell? Something like ClojureScript is doing with javascript. Also, is there an way to write multiple lines of target language specific code, like is done with c-declare? I'm not able to find any target language primitives in manual... Thanks, Sanel
