The symposium on Trends in Functional Programming (TFP) is an international forum for researchers with interests in all aspects of functional programming, taking a broad view of current and future trends in the area. It aspires to be a lively environment for presenting the latest research results, and other contributions. * TFP offers a supportive reviewing process designed to help less experienced authors succeed, with two rounds of review, both before and after the symposium itself. Authors have an opportunity to address reviewers' concerns before final decisions on publication in the proceedings. * TFP offers two "best paper" awards, the John McCarthy award for best paper, and the David Turner award for best student paper. * TFP is co-located with Lambda Days in beautiful Krakow. How to copy data from C world into an u8vector?

Dear Marc, I know if I have a ___STILL u8vector, if I have a blob in the C world, I can just implement a c-lambda that will memcpy() that blob into the u8vector's memory addresses. If the u8vector is not ___STILL however, I cannot do that as the u8vector's memory address range could change during the memcpy(), is not that so. Is there any function in Gambit to copy a byte range from a fixed memory address into a non-___STILL u8vector? E.g. (u8vector-raw-copy! (foreign-address my-c-object) u8vector 0 length)? Or instead, is the recommendable way to do this, that I make a ___STILL u8vector, do memcpy() to it in a c-lambda, and then at return i |u8vector-copy| this u8vector, this way the resultant u8vector is non-___STILL which is best from the point of view of memory fragmentation? Your clarification will be much appreciated! Thanks, Phil

Some of you might be interested in Scheme continuations and how they are implemented. Matthew Flatt will be giving an invited talk at the VMIL workshop on Tuesday on the role continuations play in Racket and how they are implemented. I highly recommend it as Flatt gives great talks and the implementation has a lot in common with Gambit. Does gambit support flow control on ports?

Hi, the following I wrote assuming the `no buffering` of pipe ports would block the writer until there is a reader thread ready to receive the data. Apparently that's not the case. Does Gambit support such a flow control? (Or alternatively: is there a way to create my own ports, which would?) ICFP provides a forum for researchers and developers to hear about the latest work on the design, implementations, principles, and uses of functional programming. Proposals are invited for workshops (and other co-located events, such as symposiums) to be affiliated with ICFP 2021 and sponsored by SIGPLAN. These events should be less formal and more focused than ICFP itself, include sessions that enable interaction among the attendees, and foster the exchange of new ideas. The preference is for one-day events, but other schedules can also be considered. Naive language server for gambit scheme

Hello dear community! In order to learn the scheme programming language I choose to create a language server as my first program. I guess your attention is required to make things work outside the unix-universe. Is ___CAST(void*, ___BODY(u8v)) the optimal way to resolve u8vector's data in C?

Hi! In C, I like to get the memory address (void*, char*, etc.) of the blob in a Scheme u8vector. That is a u8vector that is _still_, of course. Also of course this means a pointer to the first byte in the u8vector. I see how to do it here http://gambitscheme.org/wiki/index.php/Using_Gambit_with_External_Libraries… , and there are multiple suggestions in there. Of all the suggestions, the "void *u8vectorptr = ___CAST(void*,___BODY(u8v));" form is the shortest form. The default recommended form however uses "___BODY_AS(u8v,___tSUBTYPED)" instead of ___BODY. Another suggestion uses &___FETCH_U8(___arg1,0), or instead of 0, ___INT(0). Can you please explain, is there any material difference or advantage between these? Are they equal so all else the same, the shortest form I mentioned is the preferable one? Thanks, Phil
