Is there a way to hook the reader of the REPL to capture and do something with the expression that's read before the evaluator evaluates it? I don't want to change the expression before it hits the evaluator, just remember it.

Yes.

There's a hook that is invoked for any code that's eval:ed, you have a reference to it at end of build.scm of legacy-branch BH. Taking only evals coming in from the REPL should surely be doable too, _repl.scm ? Keep ML posted of what you got to :)
