I double checked to make sure, and it takes 1 second on my MBP (running Windows). See the details below. If it takes 40 seconds for you, there is definitely something wrong with your setup, unless your computer is very old!
I used the latest Gambit (v4.6.1) installed using the installer downloaded from the Gambit web page.
