multiple definitions due to include/load

What about if definitions are included/loaded multiple times due to (use-)dependencies of Gambit-C 4 source files? E.g. if lib1.scm uses lib2.scm, and bar.scm uses lib1.scm *and* lib2.scm, then lib2.scm is used twice by bar.scm: directly and indirectly (i.e. via lib1.scm). Of course lib1.scm should not rely on such applications, e.g. there might be foo.scm which just uses lib1.scm, but *not* lib2.scm. C programmers like to avoid multiple includes by protecting headers by that well known pattern: /* this is file lib2.h */ #ifndef _LIB2_ #define _LIB2_ ... #endif Gauche Scheme has something which sounds related (quoted from the manual): | -- Function: provide feature | Adds FEATURE to the system's provided feature list, so that the | subsequent `require' won't load the same file again. LaTeX does similiar: compare \providecommand and \newcommand. Is there a simple way for Gambit? Or doesn't it matter at all? (Why not?) Regards Thomas

Compiling syntax-case.scm

I have Gambit 4b17 and I cannot compile syntax-case.scm with gcc 4.0 for some reason. It sits there forever doing something and gcc eats up 700Mb+ of memory. I'm on Mac OSX 10.4.4. Has anyone tried this? Thanks, Joel -- http://wagerlabs.com/

Hello Speaking of compiler warnings: I'm sometimes getting: foo.c:7033: Warnung: use of cast expressions as lvalues is deprecated in cases like: (c-declare "....... struct sigqueue * global_queue;") .... (define global-queue (c-lambda () sigqueue "___result= global_queue;")) Is there a more correct way to assign something to the result? Thanks Christian.

Difficulties while using 'make check' and while loading syntax-case...

Hi, I'm trying to get a Gambit installation up and running under OS X. When I `make check`, test #2 fails, issuing: ------------ TEST 2 (error handling) ../gsi/gsi -:h8000 -f error.scm < error.scm > test2.out *** FATAL ERROR -- Heap overflow make[1]: *** [test2] Error 70 make: *** [check] Error 2 I have actually modified the -:h, so I don't remember if that's the "stock size". I also tried supplanting -:h with -:m, and that fails differently: ------------ TEST 2 (error handling) ../gsi/gsi -:m8000 -f error.scm < error.scm > test2.out make[1]: *** [test2] Error 138 make: *** [check] Error 2 I've included the transcript with this email. It stops dead in the middle of printing 'member', and it does so repeatedly. On a seperate note, after doing a `make install`, and issuing the command: (load "~~/syntax-case") ...I consistently and repeatedly get a bus error. If, instead, I do a: for i in 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10; do gsi -e '(load "/usr/local/Gambit-C/syntax-case")'; done ...only two of the ten invocations fail with a bus error! What is that supposed to mean? serialization of promises

But anyway, maybe this has just been an oversight? (At least, the manual doesn't mention promises in the list of non-serializable objects.) Thanks Christian.

Gambit-C on Windows

Perhaps I'm missing something, but if I build a release version of Gambit-Cb17 VS 2003 V 7.1.3088 running from the windows command prompt I get the following :- C:\gambc40b17\gsi>Release\gsi Gambit Version 4.0 beta 17 > (+ 1 2) 3 > *** EOF again to exit doesn't seem to matter what I enter, I always get the EOF exit, both under gsi and gsc -- (thanks "Darren")
