current tree doesn't work on MacOS X 10.4.11 on PPC-32

Please don't delete the .c file

Marc: I needed to debug a gsc-compiled file with gdb today, and it was fairly inconvenient that the .c file wasn't left around by compile- file in beta 21. I suggest that the .c file be left around for the various source tools that need it. Brad

Change G5 and x86_64 on Mac OS to use 64-bit words (tested on G5 only)

This allows the use of large vectors/f64vectors/etc. as well as making bignum arithmetic a lot faster (uses 32-bit words in places instead of 16-bit words). hi, I'm curious to know how folks have fared in attempting to get things onto sundry embedded systems. E.g there are inexpensive-but-limited things like the Parallax Propeller which would be possibly neat to program via something like Termite. thanks for any news.

c-interface: relaxing type checking on the scheme side

Is there anyway to specify multiple tags for a type so that, for example, I could pass either a float or an int to a c function? C's basic type coercion, in my opinion, is not a bad thing and it helps code become less cluttered. Well, lets take a step back. I just realized I can't even successfully map any primitive type to a new type. For example: (c-declare #<<END int add(int a) { return a+5; } END ) (c-define-type num (type "int" #f)) (define add (c-lambda (num) int "add")) Compiling and calling `(add 5)` throws a type error for the argument (can't convert to C type). I thought the third parameter of the 'type' expression bypassed type checking. What am I doing wrong? Assuming I get that working, I could just bypass type checking altogether, but I don't want that. I was hoping to define a type along the lines of (c-define-type real (type "float" "float int")) where the third parameter of 'type' is a space-delimited list of type tags that should pass for this type. Is this possible, or on the todo list for c-interface improvements? Thanks! -- James Long

Hello World segfaults on me

I am running Ubuntu 7.10, and I've just installed (using synaptic) Gambit-C. To try my installation, I just wrote (in file hello.scm) this hello world program: (display "Hello World!\n") Running: gsi hello.scm Produces the expected output. Running: gsc hello.scm Produces hello.o1 executable file, but when I run it, a segfault occurs: ./hello.o1 Segmentation fault (core dumped) If I run it with gdb: (gdb) file hello.o1 Reading symbols from /home/fco/devel/scheme/hello.o1...done. Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". (gdb) run Starting program: /home/fco/devel/scheme/hello.o1 warning: shared library handler failed to enable breakpoint Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x800003d6 in __do_global_dtors_aux () It fails in __do_global_dtors_aux()!, so it seems there is something wrong with my toolchain, but I am using all the default Ubuntu 7.10 packages. System files location

Dear Gambit-ers, I prefer to build the installation in a temporary directory, package it and then install it (Slackware Linux 12.0). However, since during the build I set "prefix=/home/joel/tmp/package-gambc", my [Gambit] system loads the files from the temporary directory. Is there a way to change the directory variables after the build, or at a late enough time to alter the system variables? Joel -- Joel J.
