Hi all,
I'd like to thanks the presenters and the organizers for last night's meeting. I really enjoyed the formula with short presentations.
It was clearly one of my favorite MSLUG meeting. I hope we'll have other meetings like this in the future.
Cheers,
Guillaume

Thanks, Guillaume! I also enjoyed it a lot myself (although I'm a little biased, of course ;-). I think one of the advantages of such meetings is that the variety of subjects helped gather people with very different interests. We'll sure have other meetings like this, I promise.

I think that it's a good idea. We have used this formula for the 26 meetings of the Montréal PureData User Group. We have presentations of various durations and the whole meeting lasts 3 to 5 hours including a good dose of chat time.
This is organised independently from the international PureData Convention that was held two weeks ago in Montréal, although there were some presenters and organisers in common. The latter had a lot of funding. the former runs on no budget at all.

I too enjoyed our last meeting because there was lots of enthusiasm and community participation. We should strive to continue with this model, with at least 2 presentations per meeting. Given that there are over 70 MSLUG members, we could achieve this goal if each member gave a presentation once every 3 years. Cerainly doable.
Some may feel they don't have enough to say to give a presentation. I would really like to hear from everyone to know at least why they are interested in Lisp/Scheme, if they use it in your work or hobby, etc. Moreover, people not able to participate as a presenter could perhaps help in other areas. How about:
1) Prepare a MSLUG picnic/hike/apple picking in a nice place this fall.
2) Advertise our meetings to reach out to other developers/academics in the Montreal area.
3) Find prestigious presenters to invite.
4) Maintain and improve the MSLUG web site.
5) Organize special events (such as the DLS workshop).
I see a bright future for the MSLUG if we get more community involvement.
Marc
- Advertise our meetings to reach out to other developers/academics
in the Montreal area.
And talk about the MSLUG on your blog. I also welcome anybody who would like to contribute to my blog. And if their is enough interest/momentum, we could turn (The SchemeWay) into a blog for the MSLUG, with several contributors. We could even use the money earned from Google Ads for MSLUG-related stuff (like organizing special events). We definitely need to tell the world what is currently happening in the Montreal Scheme/Lisp community.
- Maintain and improve the MSLUG web site.
If you have some artistic talents, at least we could enhance the site's look&feel.
