Geordie Rose, founder and CTO of D-Wave, will visit LISA this Thursday.
He will give a talk about D-Wave at 3 PM. Room TBD. Dr. Suzanne
Gildert, an experimental physicist working on machine learning
applications at D-Wave, will also visit the lab.
D-Wave is a quantum computer company based in Vancouver. They
make a computer that can draw fair samples from probability distributions
from which traditional computers can only approximately sample using
expensive Markov chain simulations. This makes it possible to
efficiently solve discrete optimization problems on D-Wave's hardware
using simulated annealing. D-Wave is interested in machine learning
applications that can be solved using their exciting new technology.
