Interest in the Dynamic Languages Symposium?
Guys, OOPSLA 2007 (http://www.oopsla.org/oopsla2007/) will take place in Montreal in October. A few events will certainly be of interest to members of our group: the Dynamic Languages Symposium and a keynote by John McCarthy, the father of Lisp. Richard Gabriel (the Common Lisp/CLOS guy, chair of the conference) contacted me personally to tell me that : - it is possible to attend OOPSLA for just one day; - if there is enough interest, make some group arrangements for us; and - Richard Gabriel and Guy Steele will be reprising their HOPL (History of Programming Languages) 3 keynote and, if there is enough interest, can make the event available for the public. So please tell me if you are interested in attending any of these events, so I can organize some arrangement with him. Also, I intend to organize a meeting of the MSLUG somewhere around OOPSLA, since many people of the Scheme/Lisp community will be in Montreal. Cheers, Dominique Boucher

Wow, I would not expect a conference on object oriented programming to be so interesting. I will probably attend. Keep me posted when you have more details. -- Yannick Gingras

I will most probably be attending. I submitted a paper to the Symposium. If it's accepted I'll be attending for sure and if it isn't I'll probably be going anyway since it seems so interesting. On 7/13/07, Vincent St-Amour <stamourv@iro.umontreal.ca> wrote:

I would like to attend these event as well. I haven't yet been able to attend any MSLUG meetings since I currently reside on the West coast (I organize the Redmond chapter of the Seattle Functional Users Group), but I will be moving to Montreal in August. Thanks for organizing this Dominique. I look forward to meeting everyone in this group in August. Christopher Diggins http://www.cdiggins.com On 7/13/07, Guillaume Theoret <smokinn@gmail.com> wrote:

Has there been any more news from the organizers of the symposium? I looked at the OOPSLA registration page and it doesn't seem quite clear to me how I would register for the DLS. The registration form available here: http://www.regmaster.com/conf/OOP07/oop07.pdf has a one-day-oopsla section that wants you to pick either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The DLS page http://www.swa.hpi.uni-potsdam.de/dls07/ however says October 22, which is a monday. I can't really take a lot of time off work (which is why I don't plan on registering for the full OOPSLA conference) and was wondering if I really need to say I'm going on a Tuesday to get the DLS for free when all I really want is the DLS on the Monday. I'll have to send an email to Richard Gabriel. I'm in New York right now for business, so I'll do that later this week. Dominique
