On Raspberry Pi 3, a “from-scratch” build with ---enable-single-host takes about 3800 (user) + 47 (system) seconds, as opposed to about 6085.460u + 102.290s seconds.

Run time for bignum multiply (basically a few Fast Fourier Transforms):

Raspberry Pi 2 (upgraded from wheezy to jessie):

cutie-pi:~/programs/gambit> gsi -e '(define a (time (expt 3 1000000)))(define b (time (* a a)))'
(time (expt 3 1000000))
    493 ms real time
500 ms cpu time (490 user, 10 system)
7 collections accounting for 12 ms real time (0 user, 0 system)
    9166168 bytes allocated
    2002 minor faults
    no major faults
(time (* a a))
    528 ms real time
530 ms cpu time (530 user, 0 system)
2 collections accounting for 5 ms real time (0 user, 0 system)

    2067 minor faults
    no major faults
cutie-pi:~/programs/gambit> gsc -v v4.8.4 20160308184356 armv7l-unknown-linux-gnueabihf "./configure 'CC=gcc -mcpu=cortex-a7 -mfpu=neon-vfpv4 -mfloat-abi=hard' '--enable-single-host' '--enable-shared' '--enable-multiple-versions' '--disable-gnu-gcc-no-strict-aliasing'"
cutie-pi:~/programs/gambit> gcc --version
