I use gsi to run a homework-on-the-web system for 900 students (so that
includes some symbolic and arithmetic work behind the web server) on a
2.4GHz Opteron 850 (a 5+ year old machine) with no problems.  The
requests get pretty high in the last hour or two before homework is due.
