If, after a "make bootstrap" you change the line

(##define-macro (use-fast-bignum-algorithms) #t)

in lib/_num.scm to

(##define-macro (use-fast-bignum-algorithms) #f)

then you should reduce the executable size by some amount (I forget  
how much).
