Gambit does not "use GCC" or require any of its special features.  It  
is the user (you) that chooses to compile Gambit with GCC (or not).   
Even if you choose GCC, Gambit is just another C program compiled  
using GCC.  Many non-free programs are built using GCC (for example  
all of the Mac OS X applications) and surely there are no conditions  
on their distribution placed by the GCC license.
