The syntactictower (main) branch of Black Hole ['s macro expansion] is algorithmically better, that BH version just needs some minor tweaks to spin well - those minor tweaks are coming at some point. Correctly written code runs on both BH versions.

My first suggestion would be to use name spaces.  See

Another would be to use snow, though it's quite old and maybe not even
supported any more (and you'll have to tweak the sources to
run/install it, there's a problem with dates because the release is
too old, iirc).
 
Snow is a package handling system, akin to packages in different unixes and the aptitude tool in Debian, it does not aid incremental development.
