I downloaded the git package again and it worked fine this time.

My Linux version has one use sudo to perform root tasks.  Perhaps I forgot to use sudo with one of the commands.

I don't know why the file gsc/_t-c-3.scm is mode 0600 (it should be 0666).  I've changed it in my work directory, for the next release.  Could you change it locally (chmod 644 gsc/_t-c-3.scm) and try again?
